Stone is one of the most sought after materials for dressing up fireplaces and the side of a house. However, the cost of performing real stonework is substantial and if your home was not originally intended to have stone added to it, this option is not possible. Adding manufactured stone is an option that will save money on the pocket book and still give you the look of natural stone that is desired. The installation process is substantially different as this material has a very specific installation method that needs to be followed.
Manufactured Stone
Manufactured stone is actually concrete that is poured in a cast that has the profile of natural stone. The concrete cast is dyed to the desired color and the back of the cast has 3/8 inch to ½ inch groves cut into it so that the cast stone adheres to the wall. This product comes in a variety of shapes and sizes, but is thin and lightweight in order to be able to be placed on the wall like tile.
