Practically, all babies and infants have episodes of gas and stomach bloating; however, some babies experience it a lot more than others. Gaseous bloating, abdominal distension and stomach pains occur as a result of air that gets trapped in the baby's gastro-intestinal tract, during feeding. It is also a by-product of the process of digestion.
Breast-fed babies may develop gaseous expansion, if the mother consumes large quantities of legumes, pulses, beans and fermented foods.
